A general overview talks and music presented by Atiyyah Khan and Georg Dietzler
transmit presents the richness and diversity of experimental music and sound art from South Africa – a fertile ground for unique and varied scenes. The aim is to offer a broad overview with historical references, niches, and insider perspectives across generations. The hosts provide in-depth insights through portraits, reports, talks, and lots of music from studio guests, some performing small live sets. transmit is initiated by Cologne-based artist and networker Georg Dietzler and Cape Town journalist, author, and DJ Atiyyah Khan. The show airs every two months, on the first Wednesday from 18–20 h CET, on 674fm in Cologne. Guests from South Africa join via Zoom, while Dietzler hosts from the studio. In the long run, transmit will also be shared with international radio stations and an online archive will follow. The first episodes feature musicians from South Africa’s experimental scenes, followed by artist portraits, festival reports, discussions, and always plenty of sounds – with guests bringing rarely heard music to the airwaves.
transmit präsentiert die Vielfalt experimenteller Musik und Sound Art aus Südafrika – ein fruchtbarer Boden für außergewöhnlich diverse Szenen. Ziel ist ein möglichst breiter Überblick mit historischen Ankerpunkten, Nischen und Insider-Tipps verschiedener Generationen. Die Hosts geben vertiefte Einblicke in Südafrikas experimentelle Musik- und Klangkunst, mit Porträts, Berichten, Gesprächen, viel Musik von Studiogästen und kleinen Live-Konzerten. Initiatoren sind der Kölner Künstler und Netzwerker Georg Dietzler sowie die Kapstädter Journalistin, Autorin und DJ Atiyyah Khan. Die Sendung läuft alle zwei Monate, jeweils am ersten Mittwoch von 18–20 h CET, auf 674fm in Köln. Per Zoom werden Gäste aus Südafrika zugeschaltet, während Dietzler im Studio moderiert. Langfristig wird transmit auch international geteilt und ein Online-Archiv aufgebaut. Die ersten Folgen stellen Musiker:innen vor, danach folgen Porträts, Festivalberichte, Diskussionen und stets besondere Klänge – mit Gästen, die teils im Studio auftreten.
